6 months!

i have been mia lately!  i have lots to document - hayes' baptism, disney, christmas!  my sweet santa surprised me with a new macbook for christmas and i'm still learning how to use this fancy thing.  but i'll post pics from all our december fun soon.

but for now.....someone really really really cute, sweet and special celebrated her half birthday today!
hayes is 6 months old.  where has the time gone??!!  what i do know is that my little tiny 5 pound, 3 week early, fussy pants baby has grown into a 15 pound 14 ounce smiley little love bug who thinks life is grand.  don't get me wrong....she still would like to be held ALL the time, but we're all okay with that.  she is spoiled rotten.  her smiles are infectious and we are smitten.

hayes was diagnosed with RSV yesterday.  sk has had a cold/cough for quite a while and i also have been sick so i wasn't surprised when hayes' nose started to run.  after her cough worsened over christmas & became rattled i decided to take her in. the positive rsv test showed up quick so she is pretty far into it and the dr doesn't expect her to get any worse from here.  her lungs were clear, her oxygen level was great and she hasn't had fever so she has really handled this virus very well thankfully!!  i don't know how she sleeps because she is quite congested but she manages.

some things to note about 6month old baby hayes:
*size 3 diaper
*15 pound, 14 ounces (near the 50th% range) i don't know how tall she is.  her 6 month appointment is in on the 10th.  i only know her weight because of her sick visit yesterday.
*only bottle fed now. hayes is fed both breastmilk and similac sensitive formula each day.
*we have gotten lazy with solids but now that she is 6 months i will really try to fit that in each day!  maybe after she gets well though - there's no way she can really taste the food right now!
*hayes spent her first night away from me this month! she stayed with my parents last thursday night while we took sk to orlando.  she did great (& i did fine, too!)
*hayes isn't sitting up independently but is progressing in this area!!
*sleeps in a sleep sack on her tummy for about 12 hours each night.
*total paci lover.
*rolls all around on the floor but prefers being on her tummy over anything else.
*enjoys all her toys more and more!  spends time in the exersaucer.
*drools uncontrollably.  never seen anything like it in my life.  we go through 5 or 6 bibs a day.  usually go through a couple of outfits a day, too either from drool or spit up (or blow outs...sorry hayes, but it's true).  i get so tickled at what a mess she is!!  when sk was a baby i never NEVER had to change her outfit.  she never spit up, she drooled alot but never soaked her clothes - just her bib, and her poop ALWAYS stayed in her diaper (i know the latter part has to do with formula vs. breastmilk).  in fact, this sounds so completely crazy to me now but i never even carried around an extra change of clothes for her.  ha!  she was always dressed to the nines with a little bow in her hair and she always wore her little socks and monogrammed shoes.  too funny!  oh hayes - you are a second child for sure!
*smiles a lot!  this has increased BIG time over the past week.  she was the happiest little christmas girl!
*laughs out loud.

hayes has really started watching sarah kate.  she just stares at her and will often break into a big ole grin.  she loves her sister!

i can't begin to tell you how loved you are, hayzie mayzie!!!  you are the perfect addition to our family.

little trey.  that's who she looks like these days...her daddy.  i'm sure she's just fine with that.  she completely adores him....seriously.  her "mama's girl" status is weak - daddy is a close second if not a tie.  ha!

may the next 6 months go by a little slower!!!

santa. nursing baby Jesus. teething. soap operas. (i know, random).

sarah kate didn't want to sit with santa claus this year.  she was very nervous and afraid and tried to pull us away.  she yelled her wishes to him as we stood in line (while the boy in front of us had his turn no less).  "merida costume, tangled costume, ariel costume!!!!!!!!"  (ariel costume is new....hmmmm...santa thought he was done sewing all her costumes;) )

but wouldn't you know our ole santa here at the town center in mt. p is pretty darn awesome - and super funny;)  when it was the girl's turn he worked his santa magic, we got the pics and sk got a sucker.  success.  i'm still shocked that no tears were shed from either lucy lady.

the ladies taking pics were trying so hard to get hayes to smile.  trey finally was like, "look, she's just a real serious baby!"  ha!  we didn't want to stand there all night for crying out loud.

but alas, mommy was able to get her little love bug to grin.....
hayes spreads her arms out like this alot.  maybe it's a reflex thing. she definitely has an immature nervous system - scares really easily, jumps at noises and such.  the dr said it's "normal" so i guess eventually it will mature and she won't nearly fall off her changing pad every time she hears a noise.  maybe she does the arm thing because she thinks she's a bird like her big sis.

so anyway.

sk loves to read.  no she can't really read, she's 3.  but she will pick up a book and tell a story!  well, there is a little nursing book that was in one of my many newborn packages from either the hospital or doctors office.  i'm not sure where sk found it but i see it all the time in her little play areas.  the other day she sat down on the kitchen rug and said, "come on mom, it's carpet time.  come listen to my story!"  my little teacher in the making - she loves reenacting her school days.  so i go and sit down and she holds this book up......
and then she says, "now mom, i want you to listen to this story about Jesus.  are you listening?  this is baby Jesus and his mommy, mary.  see baby Jesus?"  me: "mmmmm, yes, i see."  then she opens it (there are ZERO pics in this book - all words) and she tells the story of the night when Jesus was born.  and all the while the words she is reading are actually explaining how to get your new baby to latch onto your breast properly.
never a dull moment over here.

okay, you know how in hayes' 5 month post i wrote all about how she was sleeping through the night and napping so well???  scratch that.  all of a sudden she is really struggling!  it's not because she is hungry.  it is her teeth.  sk began teething symptoms at 4 months and her first tooth appeared at 6 months.  hayes has been having symptoms for a while but they have heightened over the past 2 days.  she barely even wants her paci when we lay her down because she just wants to chew on her hands.  she wants me to hold her and drool just pours out of her mouth.  she has been quite happy today, but was never able to get comfy enough to nap!  she did go down easy tonight - exhausted from not napping i guess.
what do you do when you don't want to sleep??  take pics of course=)
when i finally had to get some things done around the house i put her in the swing and stuck a paci in her mouth.  i thought this look was so funny!....."what??? you're leaving me??"

and finally - i'd like to admit that i have a problem.  i love love love love love the soap "the bold and the beautiful."  i record it everyday and watch it at night.  it's only a 30 minute soap which means minus commercials it takes me about 15 minutes to watch it.  but i'm so obsessed with it that i find myself thinking about it throughout the day...."oh how i hope that liam and hope find out the truth and that he dumps steffy and runs back to hope" or "oh brooke i was finally starting to like you!! how could you make out with your sister's husband???" etc.  perhaps i need to see someone about this.  ha!  i have been watching cbs soaps on and off ever since i was way too young to be watching that trash.
trey growls at me when he sees me grab the remote and search for my guilty pleasure.  but i think he secretly likes it because he sure as heck knows what is going on with those crazy forrester's.

5 months.

hayesie maysie!!  you turned 5 months old on november 29th.

you are such a fun girl!  you are a happy girl (finally)!  you still could just live in someone's arms.  you love your mommy's arms still, but your daddy's are really great too now.  you like to know where i am and sometimes when i leave the room you whimper.
you have a really sweet disposition.  you smile alot, but we do work for it.  you often smile very shyly - you bury your little head while smiling sometimes.
other things to note:
*you sleep through the night.  we put you down between 7:00-7:30.  you always wake up sometime in the 6 o'clock hour - either fussing a little or "talking."  if i go up to see about you & your eyes are still closed then i offer you a paci and you'll go right back to sleep for another hour or two.  this is almost always the case.  but if your eyes are open and you are all smiley & bright-eyed, then i know you're ready to start the day!
*you nap for 2 to 3 hours in the morning. your afternoon nap varies - anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hours...sometimes we have to wake you up!
*i supplement with formula or pumped milk from time to time now.  when you started sleeping through the night my supply hit rock bottom!  i feel like we'll probably be exclusively bottle feeding sooner than i thought - maybe just a morning nurse and then the rest either warmed mama milk or formula depending on where we are and what we're doing.
*hayes, you are HUNGRY!  you will drain a 6 oz bottle without "coming up for air" one single time.  seriously.  i like bottle feeding you because i like to know how much you are getting.  you need your tummy to be full or else you are cranky!
*we started solids during your 5th month.  you LOVE it all.  oddly enough you seem to prefer the veggies, but you like the fruit as well.  you've had pears, apples, bananas, squash, peas, sweet potatoes and carrots.

*you sleep on your tummy.  we put you down on your back and before we even leave your room you usually have already flipped.

*your relationship with your pacifier has turned into love.  y'all started as acquaintances who could give or take each other.  then y'all became friends and enjoyed each others company.  and now y'all are so deeply in love.

you like your play gym, especially if someone gets down on the floor and hangs out with you while you enjoy it.   you kinda look like your uncle jon-jon so i guess it's fitting that you have some of his personality which includes the following:  can't stay in one place for too long (you like all your play stations but rotate through them pretty quickly), you do not like to be alone (being with people is fun for you), and finally, your mommy thinks you can do no wrong (jon-jon can relate to all of these).  wink - wink. (your aunt ashley got a good laugh out of that last one even if no one else did...heeheehee.)

okay baby girl, mommy needs to go to bed.  there are a billion things i could write about you.  you are a blessing to our family. we all love you so much.  i could eat you up.  i guess i say that alot because the other day sk started yelling, "somebody get mommy a spoon!!!  somebody get her a spoon, she's gonna eat me up!!"  ha....it's true, i kinda want to gobble up my girls.

oh, and one other thing that makes you light up and smile right through that big ole paci in your mouth is when i put you to bed - i always sing jesus loves me when i'm putting you down and you love this especially if sk is in the room to help.  so sweet.

happy 5 months little mary hazel lucy.

we're back.

it's december!!  the lucy family blog is back in action!  picture storage space issue resolved and i shall continue to document the lives of sk & baby h.

hayes was 5 months on november 29th!  i'll do her little 5 month post tomorrow.  here is a pic of my little sweet girl the day she turned 5 months...

lately we have been decking the halls & watching our beloved dawgs play their hearts out in a heartbreaking loss against alabama and such.  sk has a 3' tree in her room for the first time and enjoyed shopping at target for the perfect ornaments.  all her choice.  she's getting so big!  hayes is sleeping through the night - about 12 hours - and is getting into a great nap routine.  what a blessing for us all! she's getting big, too!
she enjoys her exersauscer!
i'm slowly decorating our house.  our living room tree went up last week and is a really great one!  not too big - great shape.  praying it stays vertical unlike our tree last year.  we put a fake tree in our dining room this year and i have ordered a big burlap bow and burlap garland from etsy to go on it.  i love having a tree in there!!

we took the girls out to the beach on sunday after church, lunch & h's nap to take some pics.  then we went shopping for our church angels.  i guess i've been talking about how we need to care for others alot lately - trying to turn the "I WANT I WANT I WANT" into more of what christmas is really about.....nothing against santa - she'll get plenty! but  we're in target shopping for our angels and sk goes, "you know daddy, some kids don't even have a mommy or daddy!"  kinda harsh.  kinda true though in some cases.
i am proud to say that she can tell the whole story of the first christmas in "beflaham."  you know, just trying to plant the seed now and balance the fun of christmas with the true meaning of it.

speaking of fun, santa sent sk an email.  the portable northpole website lets you customize an email.  she wants to watch it all the time.  santa takes her on a tour of the n.pole and when he takes her into the workshop & shows the elves working she says, "is that my merida costume!???"  she truly thinks those elves are busy making her gifts....it's so funny & cute!!

we brought out the elf.  she named him birdie.  he has remembered to change locations every night so far....trey takes care of that.  our elf doesn't do anything fancy, but he serves his purpose nicely.
so that's about it.  here are some recent pics.....

sk and her tree....

hayes has trouble staying put now....
oops!  stuck!

these were all taken before going out for our tree.  couldn't get sk to stand still for one second in the tree lot!  she was so excited - ran around every tree like a crazy person!

and some beach pics....

and. we. are. DONE.

it's important to note that the only reason sk did so good with all her pics this past weekend was because a dum-dum was involved....bribery.  she does not want me to take any pics of her at all.  but she'll do anything ANYTHING for a dum dum.  which means it's also important to note that she attended a child protection seminar a few weeks ago which began the discussion about strangers and all.  the bad guys use candy because it works.

so that kind of catches us up!  we are so super busy as everyone is this time of year.  along with school things & different events here and there, hayes will be baptized on the 16th, sk's pageant is the 17th, we leave the 19th to go to folkston for christmas and we are taking sk on a surprise overnight trip to disney on the 20th.  we bought tickets to mickey's very merry christmas which we went to last year during our disney trip & we really wanted to take sk back this year.  there was a groupon a while back for $49 a night at the holiday inn so we snagged it!

i'll write about hayes and all her little 5 month accomplishments tomorrow!  although, i already mentioned that she's sleeping through the night.  so......is there anything else as important?  probably not. ;)
