catch up.

***i started this post in mid-feb**

yikes.  another month or 2 with no lucy family posts.  poor hayes-o craze-o.  i was looking at my blog archives from 2012 when sk was her age and i documented sk happenings so well.

so basically….on december 29th hayes turned 2 and a half.  on january 6th sarah kate turned 5 and a half.  milestone-ish i guess.

i took this pic in january so it's close enough to their half birthdays
another january pic of my 3 kiddos (dumbo counts)
after church one sunday

hayes' first time joining sis for lunch at her school!

updated sister pics from late february:

a sunday after church and brunch

a visit to trey's dad

the things sk loves at 5.5:
school, my little pony, pretending, arts & crafts, creating/designing costumes, logos (our wed night church program), friends, family, her teachers, books, magic treehouse books, unicorns and DUMBO (still her main squeeze).  some of her favorite home meals: taco soup, soft/hard taco night, shrimp linguini pasta, her dad's "kriner cow burgers" grilled on the big green egg (anything grilled on the BGE actually), bbq, balsamic chicken, pork chops, pork tenderloin, short ribs, chicken wings and any breakfast food.  she eats a pretty good variety of fruit.  her 3 main veggies are carrots (raw only), corn (on or off the cob) and peas.  beans & tomatoes & onions are consumed in the taco soup but not any other time.  we love to eat out as a family and we typically do that on sundays after church….her favorite spots: red drum, charleston's cafe, home team bbq, and five loaves.  moe's is still a favorite but we don't eat there much thanks to kindergarten.  we used to eat lunch there together on fridays as a treat to wrap up our week but now she eats lunch at school everyday.  she takes her lunch box monday through thursday and then on fridays she is tray lunch.  she started back swimming last week & is so excited to be back in the water.  she is taking a break from ballet.  she started the full logos program at our church this semester which is from 4:30 - 7 where she not only does choir which she had been doing, but she also does bible time, crafts, recreation and they have family style supper together.  she really loves it!  she's participating in a 6 week art class after school on mondays starting next week. so she is busy but still has plenty of time to freely play at home and make our playroom look like this…..

she is sweet, sensitive, smart, caring, emotional, extremely creative, a little messy, silly and is growing up so fast!
at moes one saturday - her choice of course

unicorn valentine's day box….so sarah kate!  a valentine post to come maybe (but probably not..ha!)

tinkerbelle.  when sk was 2 and 3 and most of 4…she dressed up daily.  like every single day.  now she does just on occasion.  it was part of her life for so long!  i always love to see her digging through her costume bin=)

my little pony socks, undies, pajamas and valentine's day cards!  the $100 (fake obviously) was part of their 100th day of school celebration.  sk took in 100 gems on the 100th day.

super sarah!
sk and dumbo (wearing a very fancy costume designed by sk..ha!)  he was in a fashion show that was put on by sk , hayes, ava and bryce on valentine's day. =)
sk's writing has come so far this year!  and yes, we need to practice writing numbers more…she turns them the wrong way a good bit.  but anyway, she went upstairs and came back down with this list about trey.  no help from anyone and was so proud.  1. my dad is a cll cat (cool) 2. my dad is a gud dad  3. my dad is the best dad  4. i love my dad  5. my dad loves me  6. my dad like to play wiv me.  (wiv!! haha….she obviously means with).   we're proud of all her hard work and for her kind heart.

look at that smile!!  sk loves art classes.

one of my favorite writing pieces to date.  she gets a writing prompt every morning when she arrives at school.  on this particular morning the question was "do you like to take a shower or bath?"  sk hates showers!  when we went to the polar express we stayed in a hotel  that only had a shower and you would have thought we were really torturing our children based on all the screams!  so i was not surprised that she wrote: "i like to take a bath because showers are so scary." haha!  honesty.  and her inventive spelling is pretty gud.  i cud read her wrds.  (wink).

just today (3/7/15) she asked me to stand still while she drew my portrait.  so she drew on her easel paper and then cut it out.  later she brought this to me.  so sweet!  she taped it to my bedroom wall (we have lots of art taped to our walls curtesy of sk).  sk is constantly creating and pretending!

the things hayes loves at 2.5:

her whole family, school, her teachers (especially mrs. mary her lead teacher), talking, singing, playing, being silly, talking, animals, beanie boos (a lot…and between santa & her extended family members…she may have them all), playing outside, doing whatever sissy is doing, books, music, frozen, and talking.  ha.  she says the funniest things imaginable on a daily basis!  some of her favorite foods: shrimp, grapes, pancakes, pasta, pork tenderloin, cheese, yogurt, bananas, apples, pretzels, and scrambled eggs.  her veggies are the same as sk's…raw carrots, corn and peas.  one day they'll like all the variety that trey and i do!  i just know it!  but not today.

smiling big in hopes of getting a sucker=)

hayes and i still do mommy/me ballet on monday mornings…she loves it!

ready for summer!  mimi/papa are taking our whole family on a disney cruise this summer and hayes' 3rd bday happens to fall during the trip…she is pumped!!

hayes does not nap anymore but she has been known to catch some zzz in the car.  when this happens i always go for a little drive to the beach.  living 5 minutes from the beach really has no downsides in my opinion.

she loves to paint!!!  all the time.  she says things like, "oh this one is beautiful!" and "look at this masterpiece!"  very humble little hayes we have.

she loves the park!!!  because really….what kid doesn't.  this weather we've been having has not been kind to our normal park schedule!!

she loved her valentine's day party at school!

she loves bath time!

the more bags the better.  just like her sis was.  and it's so they can carry ALL their "stuff."  that's what hayes says a lot…"oh no i have too much stuff, mama can you help me carry some-ting."

the face i see at lunch everyday.  love my lunch buddy.  and she loves her drinks!  she has a water cup, smoothie cup and milk cup everyday.

trey went in to kiss her goodnite one night and found her asleep sitting up.  we just thought it was funny=)

sweet girl before school on a spring-ish day!

hayes is a happy kid!  she is funny, bossy, curious, very smart, friendly (most of the time), loud and active.  her teacher says hayes is like an assistant teacher.  apparently she walks around and looks at her friend's work (art & what not) and says, "good job!" and so forth.  her teacher constantly tells me that hayes is the best helper especially during clean up.  she is really an extremely sweet girl but that's not the drive….she cleans up better than anyone because she wants to be the best, the fastest, the first, etc.  totally different personality than her big sis!  sk is very patient with her usually!  hayes demands more attention than her sis.  hayes also is more competitive so i can use this to my advantage…..i can praise the heck out of sk when she's doing something right and hayes all of a sudden will straighten up and do exactly what her sis is doing…"look, i'm a sweet girl too mama!  look at me!"  and if it is ever sk getting in trouble then hayes is very quick to say, "but i'm being a sweet girl."  ha!  she is a mess.

daddy/daughter dance in feb. -
trey took sk to our church's daddy daughter dance for the 3rd time and he took hayes for the first time.  i volunteered at the dance so i was excited to get an inside look at that thing….hilarious.  both of our girls had a BALL!

dancing with their friend, laney

sally and sk are in the same kindergarten class

caroline and sk went to pre-k together and are now at different schools but our families do a lot together

with caroline, alden and ames.

caroline, alden and sk were in 3k and 4k together.  sk and alden were also in 2k and the 12-18mo class together so this is the first year in 5 years that they are not only not in class together but they are at different schools.  they still get together to play and they go to church together and are in choir together.

that's a wrap for now!

christmas morning.

to continue with christmas…..

so the girls threw out the reindeer food on the front lawn, left cookies on the hearth, and then settled in for a long winter's nap (after story time and snuggles of course)…
night night "sweet papa dear"
twas the night before christmas….
then the elves got to work.  took papa and trey quite a while to get the car put together…..her list was: princess car, make up and new undies.

hayes's list was a new puppy dog (a stuffed one just like the one she lost at sunday school & never found) and make up (because sk wants make up.)

each girl had a pile….they received a new nightgown, socks, undies, board games & books….sk got a lite brite (one of my favorite things as a kid)…hayes received lip gloss and sk got a few little soft make up kits with eye shadow and such that she likes to play with.  they were really excited that "he came."
the car was a big hit for both girls….

it was a really sweet and fun morning.  we had a big christmas breakfast after we opened presents and then the girls took the mustang for a drive to the neighborhood playground.  my parents left just before lunch and we spent the rest of the day playing and cleaning up.  one of our favorite neighborhood families came over christmas night for chili and to play.

hayes really learned the christmas story this christmas.  sk can tell the story about the birth of jesus and hayes can answer questions about it.  it was a really exciting christmas with the girls at these particular ages.

and it wore them out.  they were asleep in no time on christmas night.
and some pics from the weekend after christmas…..

the day after christmas we went to a local park to play for a while

they worked on their ginger bread house (actually….they made a barn this year…it was cute! i took a picture of it finished but am not sure where it is)

trey and sk played a game of hungry hippo.  which sk told me the other day…"you know mom, it doesn't really matter how MANY little balls you get in that game.  it just matters that you are grateful for the ones that you do get."  how competitive of her.  ha!

sunday brunch

my best presents ever!  love them!
so…that's a wrap!  what a wonderful time of year!

gooooo dawgs, sic 'em.

i interrupt christmas documentation to discuss some football.  christmas morning and a december picture post is coming - i just know it - i can do it!  BUT there is a pretty darn exciting lucy family event to be documented and that would be….drumroll…the girls went to their first uga game and even more important to document…drumroll…they loved every single second.  we went to charlotte for our bowl game on the 30th.

these 2 are die hard georgia fans.  both learned to call the dawgs as soon as they became verbal and at the game neither were above booing the cardinals or barking at passerbys (may need to work on sportsmanship). the short story is….they are dawg fans because their parents are.  the long story is that both their parents attended UGA from 1997 until graduation in 2002 (girls…don't do the math on that one…college is a 4 year plan) so forgive me for the cheese BUT…win, loose or tie…we are dawg fans until we die.  that's a done deal for trey and myself.  but as for the girls….we are raising these cuties in tiger & gamecock country so we only have so many years to brainwash them before they apply to colleges.  ha!  totally kidding!  (kinda)

i used to do sk-isms and such for sarah kate.  may have done a few for hayes.  that's the kind of thing that is fun to go back and read and remember!

i need to do more of that so here's a sarah kate kindergarten story….
about a month ago sk got upset while i was combing her hair one morning before school.  or more so than usual and then she got upset about something else (can't remember) and basically i sent her off to school all grumpy.  so i emailed her teacher to tell her that sk had a rough morning and that i hoped it didn't affect their day.  she emailed me back later saying that sk was a tad emotional that morning but they had worked through it and that she had settled in beautifully and was doing great.  her email said, "she got a little emotional about georgia football of all things and i reminded her that here in room 203 that there was only one team and that she was a big part of it and that we all work together to be bucket fillers each day."  (bucket fillers….a positive behavioral management approach based off the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today…they use it in their classroom and coincidentally, sk is the banker this week so she gets to fill her classmate's jars with pennies when they are earned.  a job that she has LONGED to do since day 1.)  so anyway, when sk got home from school i asked her why in the world she would be crying over georgia football in class.  she started to cry and said, "well, because ALL of my friends cheer for the clemson tigers and i'm the only one who cheers for the bulldawgs and they say that the tigers are better and are ugly about it."  of course i told her that crying over football was not appropriate and that her friends feel about the tigers the way she does about the dawgs but that she is outnumbered and will always be outnumbered since we live in sc so she'll just have to get over it!  and bark like hell!  (no, i didn't say that last part. but i did tell her that we did in fact beat clemson…i mean, let's be honest here kids.)  i basically told her it was all silly & not to cry about it.  when i told trey about it he thought for a minute and said…."that was justified.  she should get upset about her football team.  a true fan."  good grief.

it was freezing.  the girls had on 2 pairs of pants, 3 layers on top plus a coat, 2 pairs of socks with tall boots, hats, and we put one of their new frozen blankets that mimi gave them to good use.  not one "i'm cold" from those 2.  sk ate 2 hotdogs (with buns), 2 donuts, 1 cup of hot chocolate, and 1 bag of popcorn.  hayes didn't eat that much (because seriously, nobody in the whole stadium ate that much) but she still needed to tinkle about 7 times compared to sk's one trip to the potty.

the girls cheered loud and proud and were fascinated by the game, the crowd and the fellow dawg fans behind us (i'd guess they were 8 or 9) who wore stuffed bulldog hats and had their faces completed painted half red half black AND who could have played the part of ricky bobby's sons perfectly in taledaga nights.  wowsa.  you can kind of see one of them in this next pic…

we arrived a tad early ;)

and to top it all off….we won.  it was a success all the way around and we are grateful!  it could have easily been a disaster…..kids & game.  proud of our dawgs - both little & big alike.

the week of christmas 2015.

and yet another month gone without a post.  i'll do a december picture post soon (maybe).

we have had a wonderful christmas break.  sk heads back to school tomorrow and hayes goes on tuesday.  looking forward to getting back into routine but i surely have enjoyed having my little lucy family altogether for the past couple of weeks.  we've really enjoyed having trey around so much!

the weekend before christmas, we traveled to folkston to celebrate with my family.
we all spent friday and saturday night with mimi & papa.  the lucys stayed sunday night as well.  so….sk had fun but none of my pics reflect that.  her lips were really chapped which apparently means no smiling for pictures.  seriously irritating.
"i just can't smile….it hurts too bad."

these 2 funny girls will cooperate for aunt katie!
crazy haysie!
all 4 girls road diamond on saturday…

we had christmas lunch over at my mom's sister's house.  all the little cousins enjoyed playing together and exchanging their gifts.
this is not an easy task.  back row…reagan & sarah kate (still obviously suffering from the chapped lips).  front row…that could be lucas or gabriel - i can't tell them apart - ava, bryce, hayes, riley and the either lucas or gabriel.  i don't know if i'll ever be able to tell them apart.

 goofy girls...

we came back to charleston the monday before christmas and spent the days leading up to christmas doing fun family things and just getting everything ready.

on the 23rd, we went down to the charleston place hotel to see the model trains and to eat lunch at the cafe there.  we enjoyed starting some new lucy family traditions.

just a few nights of rubbing aquifer on those lips and all was healed.  taking pics is still painful for the most part….just not physically painful for sk's lips.

followed by a trip to jeni's for some delicious ice-cream!

it was our first time spending christmas at our home.  we have always been down in folkston but thought it would be a good time to start making our own family traditions here in mt. pleasant.  my parents came here christmas eve and stayed until around lunch on christmas day.  sarah kate was an "angel" in the 4pm family service so we all went to that.  it was very cute & very crowded!  our church has a 3 and 4 pm family service.  then a 6, 8, and 11 pm more traditional candlelight service with scripture and hymns.

singing away in a manger

christmas eve!

making reindeer food and throwing it on the lawn…...

christmas morning post to come!!!
