some iphone pics from sk's first trip to the circus on this wet and rainy day! she loved it;)
i'm going to try to become a family-blogger. not because i think we are really all that interesting, but because i would like to document my treasured days as a sahm with my girls. AND because our families, neither of which live nearby, may enjoy keeping up with the lucys. trey, katie, sarah kate, hayes, beau-dog and bella-cat lucy=)

40 under 40.
trey reads our family blog on a regular basis. he likes to keep up with the lucys;) he may be a little embarrassed when he reads this, but essentially this blog is all for sarah kate and now for hayes and it's something i want them to read about their dad. i think very few non-family people read this anyway. march will mark a year since i started documenting sk's life through this blog and i've downloaded a publishing software so that i can have it published into a book to put away for her (and hayes). hopefully when they're teenagers they'll enjoy reading their mother's ramblings!
random funny pic of sk....
anyway, sarah kate and hayes, there are so many reasons that you should be so proud and thankful that you have the dad you have. one reason (not the most important reason, but a reason none the less) is that your dad works very hard to further his professional growth and he works very hard to make a difference in our community by being involved in different community organizations, supporting local charities, serving on boards and staying involved in our church. so a couple of weeks ago he was chosen as one of charleston's "40 under 40." this award recognizes the success and community involvement of 40 professionals younger than 40 years old who are making their mark on the region and your dad is one of them!! i am really proud of him. he and i will go to a ceremony event on april 12th where the 40 recipients will be honored.
so congratulations trey/dad! we love & support you AND we are proud of you!
trey sent me an email recently asking for me to try to find a professional picture for their work website. so i looked around in my files and emailed him this one....

kicks, eric carle, jasmine, and half bath *almost* complete.
the most random post ever.
my "baby hayes" post mentioned how extremely active she was during her ultra sound. the tech was chasing her all over the place and hayes was just having a ball in there. well, it was the first day that miss hayes has ever had a cup of non-decaf coffee. i think i drank o.j. before my 20 week ultrasound with sk and she was snoozing. at lunch yesterday i ordered a cup of regular coffee and got my little girl dancing! anyway, i wanted to document here on my blog that last night (like around 11 pm) hayes was still on her caffeine high and kicked me hard enough to where i could see my tummy jump. she's a night mover anyway, but until last night the feelings were much less noticeable. i love feeling her move and i wonder if she is going to be an active baby or if it was just the caffeine. sk was not active at all - rarely passed a kick count. we'll see - i feel her some now as i sit up in a chair to type but no major kicks like last night (maybe it was the coffee).
kick=)
sk likes to read these big look and find books. there's a key on the side of each big picture that tells the reader what to search for in the picture. sk loves for us to read it with her and then she loves to read it to herself as well. she'll say, "can you find donald duck?" "yes! there he is!" and so forth. my mom brought her a thomas the train one on monday. she already has the mickey mouse clubhouse book which she and my mom had read together alot last week.

i took these pics this morning with my iphone while she was reading on her beanbag.
this is what she does - she holds the book and looks at the cover and says, "the mickey mouse clubhouse, by eric carle." then she turns to the title page and again says, "the mickey mouse clubhouse, by eric carle." ha! cracked me right up! i think eric carle would be a little offended that the clubhouse book was mistaken for his famous work, but since she's 2 and has a big obsession with the very hungry caterpillar then he'd probably let it slide. same with the big sister book - "i'm a big sister, by eric carle." haha! she's a funny girl. a funny girl with only one author on her mind;)
last night we went over to sullivan's to eat dinner at poe's. we had a scantily clad princess friend tag along.

i think sk's mimi is on a mission to #1: make sure sk's princess collection is complete by Easter and #2: spoil my child. so this is the princess she received on my mom's last trip up. sk knows all about princess jasmine but has never seen aladin and yet, she is obsessed with this one so much! trey taped aladin the other night and she has since seen most of it now. it's not my favorite princess movie and i don't think sk loved it either, but we are big fans of jasmine and have gladly welcomed her into our home and at our dinner table....most of the time. she wanted to take her to church tonight but i just told her that jasmine could eat in the car. don't need any church folk thinking that i'm teaching my 2 year old to try to be all sexy like jasmine...her attire is a cultural thing and sk has told me that really jasmine should try to cover her tummy. it is what it is....a whole new world;) (no pun intended to those familiar with disney movie songs).
jasmine had a few bites of sk's corn flakes (sk loves corn flakes and wanted to take some with her for her appetizer. they are so bland!)

remember this.....

it's not 100% finished but it sure is close!

the fixtures (even the flusher) were changed to oil rubbed bronze so i bought a round oil rubbed bronze mirror. i also got the same kind of frame and put a beach pic of the girls in there. tomorrow after i drop sk off at school i'm going to go downtown to the market to see if i like any paintings to go on the wall (above the toilet paper....on that wall).
we picked out a lantern style light. and the light plate to cover our light switches is out of stock but that will be covered soon.

trey installed a brand new sink because he dropped a screw in our old one and it cracked it really bad. so random!

considering that this bathroom used to have maroon/navy striped wallpaper with charleston's rainbow row border and with all brass fixtures, i'd personally call this a huge improvement.
why does it drive me crazy that the t.p. is not centered in this pic? anyway, guests....you're welcome. you no longer should feel like you're going to hurl when you use our facilities. by the way....thinking of doing the nursery this color...maybe a blue with even a little more gray?? we went with the whole baby pink and pale green with sk and i want something different this time especially since sk's room isn't really changing that much. same color scheme in there. need to do something a bit different for hayes (and for me). ;)

how random was that madness?!!!

baby hayes.
we saw our 19 week and 4 day old baby hayes today. hayes was VERY active and showed us every single little body part & organ - all very healthy, growing normally and measuring on target. praise God!

we definitely wanted to find out the gender. the tech said she was "100%" sure that baby hayes is a little .....

GIRL! i seriously about fell off the table, for real. i am so excited for sarah kate!!! she's going to have a sister! i'm shocked, but trey and i both are very excited. i would have bet my life that this baby was a boy. i thought sk was a boy too, so i guess i don't have any mother's intuition in that area.
19 weeks and 4 days.....

when we came in with the pink balloons mimi thought it was a joke. she said, "are there really blue balloons in the car?" ha! no joke, mimi! we both really thought this baby would be a boy mainly because of my acne issues which she had with my brother but not with me.

trey has been dying to get a saltwater fish tank. he said he's going to get one and fill it with all boy fish so he won't be so outnumbered. he doesn't really count beau as a very manly dog! i can't even believe that nonsense...he's the most precious little manly wanly doggie in the world;) see....woof, woof big boy!

little girls are wonderful and we're blessed and thankful.

to be honest, i was a little worried about bringing a boy into this madness....

bless his heart was all i could think. who knew that the (ken) kriner kids would be incapable of producing males. interesting.
and trey is excited, but not surprised like i am. he thought it was a girl. he loves all his girls and luckily wasn't dying for a son like some guys are. i would have felt bad for him if he had those strong feelings about a son.
he loves all his girly girls - drama and all!!!

ha...sk was all out of sorts because she woke up from her nap so late. thank goodness mimi had only gotten down the street when sk woke up so she was able to come back and see sk one last time before going home to folkston. sk was NOT pleased to learn mimi had left when she woke up. thanks again, mimi, for coming up AGAIN! and thanks for the beautiful outfit for hayes - will be a perfect going home outfit!
this is a horrible pic...it is light pink and precious.

i didn't think i'd be getting to pull all of sk's sweet baby girl clothes back out of storage, in fact i cried a little recently while i was packing away more stuff. how lucky i feel to not need SO much!! we have a house full of pink, but i just had to peek at the sweet little boy outfit she brought up and i must say that i would have thoroughly enjoyed shopping for baby boy hayes. there will be a precious little sailboat outfit back at barbara's soon if anyone needs it;)
we love you so so much baby girl hayes and can't wait to meet you and cuddle with you and introduce you to the most fabulous and funny big sis in the world. i hope & pray that y'all will be the best of friends.

a couple of days with mimi.
sk loves for her mimi to come to visit. they are pals. i'm grateful that her mimi is so willing to come and help out when we need her. she came up wednesday. she and sk left for atlanta bread shortly after she arrived but not before sk got a big surprise....buzz lightyear!!! this was super exciting! sk got woody for christmas and had been wanting a buzz, too. while mimi, sk, and buzz were at dinner and taking baths and going to bed, trey and i went to our ash wednesday service at church and then we went out to dinner. baby hayes really enjoyed the service. i felt he/she lightly fluttering and thumping around quite a bit! and there is no way he/she didn't enjoy our dinner! i had a pear, goat cheese and arugula pizza with white truffle oil. it was delish!!
the next morning before school, sk and mimi were watching mickey mouse clubhouse together. i needed to make sure sk knew that she'd get to see mimi after school and that she wasn't leaving! i said, "sk, when mimi and i pick you up from school we are all going to go out to lunch together. where would you like to go?" she thought and thought and then looked up at mimi and said, "um...how about DISNEY WORLD!" made us laugh! second choice was poe's so after school we went over to sullivan's where the weather was beautiful and perfect for sitting outside. a great day for lunch at the beach for sure! buzz came along and had his own chair.
we continued to enjoy the nice weather when we got home. we played in the yard and blew bubbles, got the giggles, and such.....
yesterday afternoon mimi and sk went out for frozen yogurt while i went to the grocery store. sk got her usual vanilla with sprinkles and mom said she ate every bite. that yobe yogurt really is good - and it's all organic and fat free so that's a plus. i'm thinking it's certainly not sugar free though so i am on a yobe strike, although i may allow myself to have a treat on sundays....haven't decided yet.
thursday night was trey's rotary gala. it was downtown at the francis marion hotel this year. we go and eat and then there is a silent and live auction. trey and i bid on a painting but were outbid so we just enjoyed watching all the other people spend their money=) it was a good time and we always enjoy going. when we left the house sk and mimi were having dinner. i hate to even type this out for fear that it will change, but mimi said that she finished all of her green peas. the day before at lunch time she asked for a second helping of her peas. this is a big deal for my anti-green girl!! she still gets a smoothie everyday packed with spinach so she isn't without her greens, but i'd like for her to enjoy her green food on her plate! anyway, i have been proud of her for enjoying those little yucky peas.
a pic of trey and i on our way out. sk said she wanted to go to the gala with us. mimi said, "oh, there will only be adults there and it really won't be any fun." and sk said, "they will have fun together, mimi!!" it was so cute....she wanted us to have fun!
sk had the giggles at dinner....she decided that playing with mimi was alot more fun than going to a silly old people gala with mommy and daddy;)
what a great couple of days we had! sk was in heaven. she was very sad to see mimi leave this morning, but since mimi is coming back on monday we were able to tell sk that she'd be right back and it made it much better. my mom is going to come up on monday and spend the night with us and keep sarah kate tuesday afternoon for a couple of hours while trey and i go to our big 20 week appointment! we will get to see our sweet (and growing) baby and find out pink or blue! can't wait.....4 more days!

half bath.
things always have to get much worse before they can get much better. so we're in the much worse phase. sink in the dining room, mess everywhere, toilet on the porch....that sort of thing. but trey put the first coat of paint on last night. we're thinking 2 coats will be plenty so that will go on tonight. then he'll reinstall the bathroom appliances (is that what they're called???) and we'll have the "much better"!!!
my foyer and dining room. pretty!! he has already changed out the fixtures on the sink.

either daddy has had a little helper or daddy isn't sure where i keep the broom. let's hope it's not the latter. ;)

first coat...

sarah kate and i went up to lowes last night to pick up more paint. she said, "mama, i want to paint MY bafroom." i said, "oh, okay, yes actually that is on our list. what color should we paint it." she replied, "i want to paint it PINK!" i said, "hmmm...well, pink is pretty, but that will be baby hayes's bathroom too and if he's a boy then he may not love having a pink bathroom." she said, "i want it to be pink and i paint it all by myself! (with hands on hip)." while we waited for our paint to be mixed she continued to talk all about her pink bathroom. we browsed other colors and looked at samples and she's not totally against green, but she really wants it to be pink. so when we got home she ran to the bathroom and said, "daddy, i paint my bafroom pink!" ha! and while she was eating dinner she said, "mama, i fink baby hayes is a girl!" smart girl! she does things like that all the time to us. thinks of a way to get what she wants. manipulation. it's so funny when we realize why she has said something...her wheels are always turning. in sk's mind, if baby hayes is a girl then pink will do. one week from today we'll know for sure about baby hayes, but i can assure you that either way, boy or girl, they will not have a pink bathroom. sorry, sk.
