so, i had to have a talk with sarah kate about how both men AND women go to work. the other day she made a comment about how boys go to work and girls don't. gasp. then i thought about the women in her life who she is with on a regular basis (especially during the week).....moms that we play with during the day, mimi, ashley and me. yep...none of them work. and when we have a playdate with alden she'll say, "mr. kyle going to be there? no mr. kyle probably at work like daddy." and she talks about my brother alot! she says, "jon-jons in st. marys. he at work with papa." (see....men = work to her!) she has even said, "and ashley at home with ava and bryce." of course i told her that mommy used to leave the house to go to work but that right now i'm staying home to take care of her and her sister.
so i tried to think of a way to drive the point home. ding, ding, ding....aunt lauren. lauren is a cpa so not only does she work but she has been working ALOT lately. so this helped alot. she has visited her lala at work before but she was very little and wouldn't remember and now her lala is retired. she sees women working everyday (like our lovely publix check-out ladies!), but she's too young to think, "oh yeah, i know women work because i see women checking mama out of stores all the time." i needed to relate it to someone she knows well, so my lauren example worked and made it real. and one day soon she'll see me getting ready for work, just not right now.
sooooo.....all that said, our grocery store check out conversation with the check-out clerk was a little less embarrassing yesterday. if you read THIS post, then you know that she told the clerk and bag-man all about her potty habits the other day. well yesterday, she told the check out clerk these things, "beau beau is a brown dog. he so tiny! some girls work. lauren is at work." it's so funny to watch her try so hard to think of something good to say to strangers and i'm so glad that she came out with something about beau and working girls yesterday as opposed to "i'm wearing big girl panties and sometimes i get an m&m when i poo-poo" and such.
sarah kate is becoming a real challenge to dress each day. she only wants to wear a dress. and she's picky about her shoes. this is one of her favorite dresses and she asks to wear it all the time "i want the dress with the "s" on it and 2 crabs."

the other thing she wants to wear all the time is her new red flip flops. she and i had a full-on knock down drag out right there in the children's boutique over what shoes i would buy for her. she wanted the purple ones but the purple ones didn't have a back strap. she can't walk in flip flops very well so she needs the back! so we settled on the red pair although she can't wear them ALL the time like she wants because she wants to wear alot of pink and that's where i draw the line - we aren't wearing red flops with pink dresses. she also is picky about how i do her hair, she wants to wear her nice necklace each day, and she's particular about her nightgown each night. the battle shouldn't start this young. i'm kind of annoyed, but i try to just pick my battles.

we went to trey's rotary social tonight at the riverdogs baseball game. it was so rainy, but they have their baseball socials under a big tent with picnic tables so we went and ate and watched a little bit of the game. and by a little bit i mean about 2 innings. poor trey....both his girls have the attention span of a 2 year old so we were doing good to make it that long.

sarah kate ate 2 hotdogs at the game. she's such a pork girl!
beau and i drove through starbucks after dropping sk off at school this morning. i like to get a decaf every now and then (looking forward to my regular cup that i plan to drink on tuesday to get baby hayes dancing! we get to see her again!) the one we go to has a drive-thru and beau starts drooling as soon as we pull up to order. it really starts pouring out of his mouth when he spots the pick-up window and in his doggie mind i know he is saying, "please don't be out of treats, please don't be out of treats, i've got to have a treat." this is him looking, wishing, hoping...

he got his treat. he already felt like he'd had a perfect day and it was only 9:20.
