one. more. time.

okay. i'm going to try to actually keep up with a family blog one more time. i have tried twice before and never posted more than once! i enjoy reading other blogs. and i know that trey's parents and my parents would probably enjoy reading about our family and hearing all about sarah kate. so here i am at post #1. thought it would be a good time to start since sk will be 20 months old on the 6th.....that will be post #2. that's 2 guaranteed posts. big deal for me.
i'm going to play catch up here....jan.-feb. 2011: (this will be the longest post for me as long as i keep up with this blog (since i'm making up for 2 months of no blogging). if i don't keep up then i'll just cancel it because i'm aware that nobody wants to read a novel everytime they go to someone's blog...)
  • sk turned 18 months old on jan. 6th and had a great 18 month check-up. next well-check will be when she turns TWO...yikes! her stats at 18 months: weight was close to 24 pounds which was somewhere in the 30th%. height was around 33 inches - somewhere in the 80th%. head was the big change...it was in the 90th % and until then i don't think it had ever even measured in the 50th%. the other stats have been consistent since birth.
  • charleston did get hit by winter storm 2011 & we had some really long days at home with colds.....ready for spring!
  • we took our 3rd annual lucy family trip to blowing rock, n.c. it was great. sk loves snow.
  • trey, sk and i took a trip to atlanta and stayed with lala & grandoug. sk enjoyed her time with lala & grandoug so much & i got to help host a baby shower for one of my dearest friends who is due in march with baby boy landon! we also had dinner with our really fun & good friends, walt/laura & john martin/mary PLUS 3 beautiful kiddos...each couple has had a baby within the past year and a half...sk is the oldest, then the most beautiful baby boy walter was born may 2010, then janie came along in august of 2010 and oh.my.gosh. she is beyond beautiful. surely the torbert grandparents can hardly breathe when those 2 cousins are together at their house. the cuteness overload must almost be difficult.
  • sk had her first double ear infection the first part of february. she was so miserable. we were glad when it was over.
  • trey's a member of the charleston rotary club and we went to their gala. it was so fun to get out and be with adults.
  • sk stayed at mimi and papa's house the weekend of feb.11th while trey and i went to athens to see widespread with friends. so. much. fun. love getting together with that group of people and miss them all so much. well, except for "uncle" greg...he lives in charleston but we don't see him as much as we'd like.
  • valentine's day fell on a monday which is playdate day with our playgroup. the kids had fun! trey gave me a starbucks giftcard for v-day. what more could a girl want?! and we had the inside of our house painted including our fireplace. so very glad to get that red out of my living room and to get that oak fireplace painted white. i love it. looks great. now need an oil painting to go above the fireplace. need something big to accommodate high ceilings. no luck so far.
  • SEWE (southeastern wildlife expo) was going on downtown the weekend of feb.18th. we went down on that saturday and met up with some friends. the weather was gorgeous and sk had a blast seeing the animals, riding the ponies and having a picnic with her little friend charlotte.
  • mimi came up for 2 nights in feb. so that she could watch sk for us to go to our supper club which also meant she was able to go with me to pick sk up from school one day and meet her teachers. sk was so excited to show off her "MIMI!!!!"
  • trey and i took sk to the zoo in columbia the last saturday in february. so.much.fun.
  • trey, sk, and i went over to one of our church friend's houses for dinner the last sunday in february. their little girl is in sk's class at school and was in her gym class (right now they are in different gym classes but sk is on the waiting list to move up to alden's class). alden and sk had the best time playing together and eating dinner together. they talked and talked and giggled and played and it was just hilarious! and of course it's always nice to have time with other adults.
  • trey booked our may vegas trip. we go every may but i only go for a weekend and trey stays 2 extra days for his annual conference....until this year!!! i am staying all 4 nights this year and trey surprised me by booking our room at the bellagio. it's my favorite hotel in vegas and i love it's location. it's kind of a happy 5 year anniversary present and i'm so looking forward to our fun getaway!
  • sk has started waking up from her naps really really grumpy. she cries for her crocs so i put them on her feet. then i give her milk which is her favorite thing and she gulps it down and continues to cry. she is just in a FOWL, moody, girly mood and can be really rude and sassy acting. i'm hoping she'll grow out of it. taking her on a stroll, car ride or wagon ride fixes it and makes her happy again. but i'd rather her just wake up and act like a normal person than grouchy mcgrouch face!
  • our weekly schedule until may: monday -playgroup; tuesday - school; wednesday - free; thursday - school; friday - gymnastics. we are busy but we love our little routine and it makes our weeks go by fast....we live for our weekends with trey/daddy!!!! all other free time is spent eating, napping, playing, walking, going to the park, and doing crafts. um....and talking.....sk can't stop talking. my mom told me early on, "um, i think sk is going to be the kind of girl who wants to keep the conversation going." then trey told me recently, "i have a feeling we are going to be asked questions non-stop for the next 15 or so years". and even at her 12 month appointment her dr. said, "oh, wow. i was going to ask how many words she knows but since she's already said about 30 since i walked in here then i'd say she's doing well in the verbal area." it's just her thing! she's overly cautious physically & overly...well...talkative verbally. all that being said, she's also becoming extremely shy. it takes her a little bit to warm up. she's anxious in new settings. she never walks into preschool like she owns the place but she does walk right on in now and finds a place to play without even giving me a second look. this means she really feels comfortable in her classroom. this is so huge and makes me beyond happy. i want her to be happy.

see. need a big ole beautiful oil that doesn't break the bank.

just always checking out the grass, leaves, sand, rocks....girl stands at the door screaming "OUTSIDE" all day!

She also stands at the door saying "bubbles!!" "outside, bubbles, outside, bubbles"

i miss my little infant girl, BUT walking and talking with her is the most fun i think!

at the park. charleston has the absolute best county parks all over the place. okay...the curls. sk doesn't just have sorta curly hair or wavy hair. her hair is naturally ringlets from root to end. i continue to get asked on a daily basis where her curls come from. strangers will come up and ask me this question, friends will ask me, facebook peeps will ask me....i don't mind the question at all from anyone at anytime but at this point i really don't know what to say. the curls were a huge surprise. she's mine though i can assure you even though those curls did NOT come from me. trey had/has some curl too...but not shirley temple ringlets. her hair is actually long now....it goes all the way past her shoulders and is creeping down her back. when it is wet and i comb it out i have to hold the end of her hair at the bottom to see how long it is because it immediately curls back up when i let go. do i love the curls? yes because it fits her.....i think she's got such an endearing personality & those curls are so sweet. do i also dislike the curls? yes. every morning when her hair is in a complete rat's nest and i have to comb it out. it hurts. she cries. i try to use conditioning spray and water. i do it while she brushes her teeth which helps distract her a little. i wonder if those curls will stay?! i hope she loves them!

her teacher asked me the other day, "does this child have her daddy wrapped around her finger?" um....that would be a big YES. he thinks she hung the moon. and well, maybe she did;)
