happy birthdays and william faulkner.....

what a title, huh? never thought that would be a blog post title but it does apply....you just keep on reading, okay. ;);) happy birthday to 2 special people! sk's grandoug (she calls him "dougie") has a birthday today....hmmmm....he may not want for me to share his age even though he doesn't ACT his age...HAHA...just kidding grandoug. (he was born in 1940 so i'll just let you do the math). and also, my first cousin, dixie, has a birthday today! she may not want me to share her age either even though she doesn't seem to ever age. and her 3yr. old twin boys keep her very active and on the go. she's in her 30's and i am too, so i can definitely say that it is a great place to be (early, mid, late...it's all good)!!! so happy birthday to dixie and dougie. we love y'all. so yesterday i decided to let sarah kate use her sidewalk chalk eggs that mr. bunny put in her basket. she loved it! we (and by "we" i mainly mean "i") wrote dougie his bday message on our driveway and took some pics of it to send to him. dougie will receive his card/gift in a couple of days from the lucys so i sent him a shutterfly album with his 'egg chalk card' pictures to hold him over;) here are a few:

happy birthday!!! now, can i also just post a couple of pics of sk's new reading material......sk loves books but today she decided to just say bye bye to dr. suess.....i guess she was just feeling SO above that kid stuff so she visited the grown-up bookshelf and chose to read a little faulkner. i mean, who DOESN'T love "as i lay dying?" it's just SUCH a light and easy read with THE most vibrant pictures, right? joking. i hate that book. i never even finished it. could faulkner just get on with it already and not try to put 200 words in one sentence that all say the exact same thing in a million different ways? apparently, sk does not agree with my critique. ;) oh, and she also read a little bit of "into the wild." and upside down nonetheless. ;)

by lunchtime my 21 month old was back...whew...hehehehe...
"I never know what I think about something until I read what I've written on it.
" ~William Faulkner
(seriously??? at least it's a short sentence, but seriously?)

i hate to just completely dog on faulkner so i'll end with one that i like....i like to end on a positive note....like in my old parent/teacher conferences....you start with a positive, any negative goes in the middle and then end with a positive.

"Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself."
~William Faulkner
(i'm not saying i follow this advice. i'm just saying it actually makes sense.)
