south carolina girl.

it is strange to even type those words. for the most part, i rarely even think too much about the actual state that we live in. i think....we live in mt.pleasant, in charleston county, 5 miles from the beach, less than 10 miles from downtown charleston. great! but we do in fact live in south carolina. not only that but we love it here and i really don't see, at this point, us ever relocating. ever.

i'm a georgia girl through and through. born in florida because no babies (ZERO...seriously) are born in the small south georgia town where i grew up so i was born in jacksonville. i was brought home from the hospital to the same exact home where my parents still live today. that is still my "home" too. a few months before i was born, my hubby was born in atlanta, GA . 18 years later we both went to the university of georgia. we both lived in athens from 1997-2002. after graduation in '02 we both decided to 'try out' different states! he lived in tahoe, california for a year and i moved to charleston for 2 years. and then guess where we ended up .....yep, back in georgia. we lived in atlanta which is where we started dating (again) and then we were married...you guessed it, in georgia. we decided in '07 that we wanted to leave atlanta. we wanted to be closer to the water and wanted to raise our kids in a smaller city. charleston was the only city that we both agreed on and it was just our favorite city! so trey got a job here and i finished up my masters in atlanta, sold the house, packed up my classroom & headed east....the rest is history.

so sarah kate is a south carolina girl. she was born here and will be raised here. she'll probably feel about s. carolina the way i feel about georgia. that's a little weird for me to think about! i want my girl to be a georgia girl!!! but i don't want to leave charleston just so my kids can be born in another state...that's just silly. and i would never discourage her from being in love with her state. so i'll bite my tongue when she wants to send her college applications to clemson and south carolina. and i'll just try not to rear-end her car if she happens to put a tiger paw or a gamecock sticker on it (the paw i can handle actually). and if she DOES follow mine and trey's footsteps by spending her FOUR (not five like us) years at UGA then i sure as heck am going to encourage her to come back to her home state when it's all over.

i have thought before that it's a shame that it's not "charleston, georgia." so i'm trying to come to terms with this whole change of state thing by letting SK wear these palmetto/moon bloomers. it's a small step. our wonderful neighbors gave these to her when she was born in s.c.! i'm proud of my south carolina girl. we're lucky that this great city has allowed us georgia folks to move in and we are thankful to be here. and heck, we are most definitely not alone....every other car we see has a G on it! smart people.
