yee haw! new shoes & a fender bender.

this post was just going to be a kinda funny post regarding sarah kate and her beloved country music. then today sarah kate and i were involved in an accident on i526 so i wanted to write about that first, but i'll end with the funny. that's the best way to end anyway.

we're definitely okay so i'm real thankful for that. this afternoon sarah kate and i ran out to the outlet mall to exchange some shoes for her at stride rite. i went out there this morning and bought her 2 new pairs of shoes 1/2 size too big so we went back for the correct size. make sure you check out the pics below because if you're anything like miss sarah kate then you will think that her new pink sparkly keds are the coolest shoes ever. she's loving them. anyway, on the way home we were in rush hour traffic. it was stop and go. i don't know what the driver in front of me was doing, but i can only assume that she was not paying attention because all of a sudden she slammed on her breaks, her wheels locked, tires smoked, and she rammed into the side of the wall (we were on an overpass). i put on my breaks but also i changed lanes & went over into the center lane a little bit to keep from hitting her car. apparently, according to a witness, there was a motorcycle driver following really close behind me and when i went around the car the motorcycle then had to lay down his bike to try to keep from hitting the car in front of me (the one that hit the wall). he did lots of flips and was thrown from the motorcycle and his bike then hit the back of my car on the lower right bumper. so of course i pulled over. i didn't know what had hit me at the time. i didn't even see him do the flips, but when i pulled over i looked in my rear-view mirror and saw a motorcycle laying on the ground with no driver. i just wasn't sure what had happened since it all happened so fast. 2 hours later, the report was finished and it was the bike that hit my car after he had been thrown. he was taken to the hospital but luckily he seemed unharmed....amazing considering the flips and the traffic! can't believe nobody ran over him. if he had not had his helmet on then he would be dead. he will be charged with following too close. i don't know what happened to the girl who ran into the wall. she wasn't hurt, didn't go to the hospital, and was out there next to my car for a long time but we didn't speak. truthfully she completely caused the whole series of events. but since she just wrecked basically with herself and a wall then i'm sure she wasn't charged with anything. i'm glad she's fine, too. however, if she was texting or talking on her phone then i'd like to punch her in the face. that's just how i feel about those things! ha! i am obviously not charged with anything, but i have to go to court to recount what happened. of course we have to deal with insurance and getting my bumper fixed but at least we were able to avoid a horrible wreck. bottom line...pay attention when you are driving. also....motorcycles are not safe. but if you have the need for speed and must drive one then wear a helmet. it will save your life. sarah kate and i have lots of angels watching over us so i guess they helped me maneuver around in a way that would keep us safe.

sarah kate was a champ. such a long time to be still in a car seat! luckily i had some crackers on hand because it was nearing dinner time. she didn't cry when we were hit. it wasn't a very hard hit so i don't think either of us will be sore or anything like that. i had a spot removed from my back yesterday that is being biopsied and it is real tender & the bump bothered it a little, but that's it. the officers were real sweet to sk and understood when 'mama bear katie' refused to leave the car even for a second. trey came and saw us through the end of the ordeal. sooooo anyway....we were able to avoid a serious accident. made me real nervous though! i told trey that i'm scared to drive now. accidents happen so fast.

now...for the funny. yesterday, trey and i took sk out to dinner and while we were in the car we were listening to our country music station. that's all we ever listen to in the car. sk does not want you to change it.....girlfriend loves her country music more than anything. she just bobs her head and even knows some of the words to her favorite songs (like....all i wanna "do-oo-ooo-ooo-oooo-oooo-ooo" is love you.) cracks me up. well, in between songs they had a commercial on and somewhere in the commercial "yee haw" was said. and all of a sudden sarah kate yells out "YEEEEEEE HAWWWWWW." it was so funny. trey said, "um...did she just say yee haw?" i was like, "yep". so today when i picked her up from playschool all the kids in her class had on cowboy hats. i thought that was so fitting for my little country girl. they got to keep them and sk is super proud of hers. she wanted to wear it home from the outlet mall today so i snapped a pic before we drove off. and actually she still had it on when the officers came up....i'm sure they thought that was interesting....

now for the shoes;) i think she likes the fact that they have sparkles....and i like the fact that they are sneaker-ish and not croc-ish....

and a close-up:

so glad we got home safe and sound.....just in time for dinner;)

  1. Oh no, Katie! I am so thankful that you and sweet, little SK are okay! How scary! And, so proud of her for cooperating in that car seat for 2 hours of just sitting there! Not sure if I could have gotten mine to do that? ;) Love all of the pictures...she is such a DOLL!!
